Join IGI for ‘Responsibility-Sourcing’ discussion at JCK

Join’s Kyle Roderick, Mercury Free Mining’s Toby Pomeroy and IGI’s John Pollard for a discussion on environmental concerns, social responsibility and traceability in the diamond gem and jewelry industry.

As the world’s first gemological laboratory to commit to carbon neutrality, IGI is dedicated to uniting the industry through proactive environmental stewardship.

John Pollard, IGI

John Pollard is Senior Director of Education for IGI, expanding the institute’s traditional education and diploma programs, instructed at 14 schools of gemology around the world, while designing modern eLearning courses, tutorials, seminars, and webinars for IGI clients in all sectors, including leading luxury brands. As a consultant for diamond producers, grading laboratories and sellers in North America, Europe and Asia, he has presented seminars at JCK Las Vegas, the American Gem Society Conclave, the Gemological Institute of America Alumni Association, and various trade conferences in Beijing and Shanghai, China.

Toby Pomeroy

An award-winning designer-goldsmith for over 50 years, Toby Pomeroy became passionate about responsible gold mining after encountering Earthworks’ “No Dirty Gold” campaign in 2004. Since then, Toby has been dedicated to cultivating industry-wide support for a socially and environmentally responsible gold supply chain and a purpose-driven jewelry industry. He founded Mercury Free Mining (MFM) in 2017, a nonprofit organization committed to the discovery and deployment of mercury-free processes for the health of 20 million artisanal and small-scale gold miners and the environment upon which we all depend.

Kyle Roderick covers design-driven, limited edition jewelry and important timepieces for and her Instagram @bijouxreview Engaging with 100,000-plus followers, @bijouxreview partners with designers, retailers, jewelry and timepiece companies plus other industry pros to showcase and tell stories about the intrinsic value of jewelry, gems and timepieces. Roderick conceived, wrote and photo edited BEJEWELED: The World of Ethical Jewelry (Rizzoli, 2019) the first (and still the only) book documenting how consumer demand for sustainable and ethically produced jewels is reforming the jewelry industry into a more environmentally sustainable, humane and economically fair business.
